Conversion rate optimisation has a reputation for being slow and technical. Most of what actually moves the needle isn’t. Here are seven changes you can make in ten minutes that we’ve seen lift conversion rates by 2–15% on real stores.
Do them in order. Measure before and after. You’ll see the compound effect within a week.
1. Free shipping threshold at 1.3× AOV
If your average order is $45, set free shipping at $60. Pushes customers to add one more item to save $8 of shipping — they overwhelmingly take the trade. Lifts AOV 8–12% within a week.
2. Trust badges above the fold
Move trust badges (free shipping, money-back, secure checkout) directly under the add-to-cart button. In Shopify’s theme editor, add a Custom Liquid block with three SVG icons + one-line labels. 8 minutes.
3. The “4-image minimum” rule
Every product page needs 4+ images: hero, lifestyle, detail, scale reference. Products with 4+ images convert 40% better on average. Audit your top 10 products. Fix any with fewer than 4 today.
4. Enable Apple Pay + Google Pay + Shop Pay
One-click payment typically lifts mobile checkout completion by 10–20%. All three free to enable in Shopify Payments settings. 3 minutes.
5. Replace “Buy Now” with a specific verb
Replace with “Get the toolkit”, “Add to my kit”, “Claim my pair”. Lifts CTR to cart by 3–7%.
6. Honest scarcity (only when true)
“Only 3 left” works when it’s real. Enable Shopify’s built-in low-stock display. Don’t fake it — customers see through fake scarcity and it destroys trust.
7. Cart upsell — one product, not five
Upselling works when you suggest one highly-relevant add-on, not a grid of five. Aim for a single sensible pair per product.
Combined effect
- 5–15% lift in conversion rate within two weeks
- 8–15% lift in average order value
