Product Descriptions That Convert (Template)

Most Shopify product descriptions are a list of features the manufacturer sent. “60% cotton, 40% polyester, machine washable.” Nobody buys things because of fabric ratios. People buy products because of the outcome the product gives them.

Here’s the four-part template we’ve used on 50+ Shopify products, consistently lifting conversion rate by 15–30% versus whatever the store had before. Copy it exactly for your first 10 products, then personalise.

The four parts

  1. Promise — the headline benefit, one sentence
  2. Proof — specific detail that backs the promise
  3. Objection handling — the three questions customers silently ask
  4. CTA — specific next step

Before / After example

Before (generic, feature-led)

“Premium cotton hoodie. 80% organic cotton, 20% recycled polyester. Machine washable. Available in sizes S–XXL.”

This is information. It’s not persuasion. A customer reading this has no idea why this hoodie beats the 10,000 other hoodies on the internet.

After (framework applied)

“The hoodie that’s soft enough to sleep in, warm enough for a 5am school run. We tested 14 cotton blends before landing on this one — pre-shrunk, won’t fade after 30 washes, and the oversized fit works whether you’re 5’2″ or 6’3″. Ships free in Australia within 3 business days. Not sure about the fit? Our 60-day return policy has you covered.”

The {product type} that's {specific benefit} and {secondary benefit}.

Part 2: Proof

We {specific action or testing detail}. {Measurable fact}. {Social proof if you have it}.

Part 3: Objection handling (3 bullets)

  • Fits {spec} — includes size chart
  • Ships in {timeframe} — tracked
  • {Return policy} — no questions asked

Part 4: CTA

{Specific verb} {specific benefit they'll get}.

Power words vs feature dumps

  • high quality → specific spec (“pre-shrunk cotton”)
  • premium → what makes it premium (hand-stitched, small-batch)
  • comfortable → sensory detail (“soft enough to sleep in”)
  • durable → how you know (“passes 500 abrasion cycles”)
  • amazing → delete. Nobody believes “amazing”.
